Count characters the way X sees them
Standard X accounts get 280 characters per post. PostCraft shows a live readiness meter as you type: green while you are comfortably inside the limit, amber when the post is getting long for the feed, and red once it no longer fits. Styled Unicode letters such as π―πΌπΉπ± use more of the limit than plain letters, and the counter reflects that, so there are no surprises when you paste.
Preview your post before you publish
The X preview shows your text with line breaks, hashtags, mentions and links laid out like a real post, next to the LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook previews. Spot an awkward break or a buried hook before your followers do.
Turn a long post into one that fits
1. Paste your LinkedIn or blog draft into the editor. 2. Switch the preview to X. 3. Use the adapted version: blank lines are condensed and the text is trimmed at a word boundary to fit 280 characters. 4. Edit the result, then copy or open X with the post pre-filled.
Frequently asked questions
What is the character limit on X (Twitter)?
Standard posts on X are limited to 280 characters. Subscribers can write longer posts, but only the first 280 characters show in the timeline before a Show more link, so keeping the hook inside 280 still matters.
Do bold or italic Unicode letters count as more than one character?
Yes. Styled Unicode letters live outside the basic Latin range, so X counts them as two characters each. Use them for a word or short phrase rather than whole sentences if you are close to the limit.
Do links count toward the 280 characters?
X shortens every link to a fixed-length t.co URL, so a link uses the same part of your limit no matter how long the original address is. Leave room for it when you are near the limit.
Is the X character counter free?
Yes. PostCraft is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser β your draft is never uploaded.
